Review the details for your insurance choices for Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Comprehensive Critical Illness plans to decide if any are right for you.

Life Insurance

The Gordon Food Service Flexible Benefits Plan gives you the opportunity to purchase life insurance coverage for yourself and your dependents. There is a minimum required amount of life insurance for employees—the rest is optional.  This type of insurance is called term life insurance. It pays a benefit to the beneficiary if you die of accidental or natural causes.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance

AD&D insurance is completely optional. If you elect coverage the plan pays a benefit if you, your spouse, or child are killed or seriously injured in an accident.

Comprehensive Critical Illness Insurance

Your medical insurance may only cover some of the costs of a life-altering critical illness.  Your finances may be impacted due to not being able to work.  If you purchase insurance, you decide the amount of coverage you want, and then, if a critical illness occurs, you receive a cash benefit based on that illness.

Things to Think About

  • To determine the amount of any type of insurance you need, consider how it would impact your family if you, or if applicable your spouse, were to die or become unable to continue to work and provide your current level of income due to an accident or illness.
  • Optional employee and spouse life insurance cost is determined based on gender, smoking status, and age.
  • Some insurance coverage will not be approved until the insurance company has reviewed and approved evidence of insurability (good health).
